Herbsttreffen Bericht: 6. Oktober 2018

In preparation for next year's 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, and the Goethe Institut's Deutschlandjahr, participants shared Mauerfall ideas from 2009 and 2014 including relevant films:

• Karl Marx City (Netflix)
• Two Lives (Netflix)
• Sonnenallee
• 12 heißt “ich liebe dich”

And books:

• Kinderland (Mawil)

Other ideas of celebration included a Mauer cake, the building of a Mauer and its destruction.  
(Done at SU with architecture students, and at FM in the classroom using shoe boxes) SUNY Oswego
professors are contemplating building a wall on campus in August and keeping it up until Nov 9, 2019.
Members brainstormed group project ideas including a visit the piece of the wall located in Syracuse
behind the MOST museum.

The date for the next meeting will be Saturday, April 6th, 2018 at FM High School,

9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Topics proposed:

• Funding ideas
• Bundesliga im Unterricht
• Study in Germany - MA and how to get stipends
• 3rd semester/3rd year German retention problems and solutions

Participants will be broken up into groups - secondary and college level and will share ideas. Workshop participants are encouraged to come with concrete suggestions to share.

Notes:

April 2019 will be President Kate Stewart’s last meeting in her current term.  A Vice President from the secondary level will be nominated between now and then.

Action Items:

Harald Zils is looking for an adjunct instructor for 102 German at Binghamton for the spring semester.
