CNY AATG Frühlingstreffen, den 28. April, 2012
![]() |
Participants started off by voting on which student writing errors were the most troubling. |
CNY AATG members enjoyed a workshop which satisfied both secondary and post-secondary instructors: Improving the Teaching of Writing at all levels with the MPG-Approach, held by Jennifer Redmann of Franklin and Marshall College.
Workshop participants discussed the value of examples of currently used college texts' approaches to writing prompts and then launched into Dr. Redmann's methodology. Films and fairytales were the stimulus for writing tasks which included e-mails, reviews, poems, short stories, etc. The German film, "Bella Martha" was compared with the American remake, "No Reservations" and clips of each were viewed and modeled for student prompting.
To our delight, the newly published textbook, Schreiben Lernen, from Dr. Redmann and Pennylyn Dkystra-Pruim was provided to all participants at the workshop, and many of the prompts, steps, and vocabulary activities featured in the examples during the workshop were evaluated and discussed in plenum.
Following the workshop and lunch, the CNY AATG members voted on new directors, and thanked Karina for her outstanding and extremely enriching years of service to the organization, and new President, Chris Solan and new Vice President, Harald Zils were congratulated! Other new or continuing directors include Missy Hoch as Secretary, Ana Djukic-Cocks as Treasurer and Kate Stewart as Membership Coordinator/Newsletter Editor.
Finally, congratulations are in order to Karina von Tippelskirch for her award of the Meredith Teaching Award at Syracuse University!
Our next meeting will be: September 15, 2012 |
