Twenty-two teachers, professors and students gathered on the shores of Lake Ontariao in windy Oswego to admire the new Language offices and classrooms and to discuss all things Märchen. Guest speaker Professor Jim Davidheiser of University of the South, Sewanee, TN gave a presentation, the core of which was the historical background of the Grimms' brothers' Kinder- und Hausmärchen.
Following the presentation the CNY AATG held a business meeting. A nominating committee has been given the task of proposing nominees for the position of Vice President and consequently President, to be voted upon at the spring meeting, when the current officer positions will end.
The Spring meeting will be at Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Manlius, NY on March 27th with a guest, Professor Irene Motyl to present a workshop on the current German TV program, "Verliebt in Berlin" and its uses in the German classroom.
Other upcoming events include a concert at SUNY Oswego with Andrea Huber, a singer from Germany, who will perform two concerts of Kurt Weill music. The first concert is at 11:30 and designed primarily to school students. It will cost $5.00 which includes a German lunch. The evening concert will be two hours in duration and will begin at 7:00 P.M. and will also cost $5.00. Professor John LaLande can be contacted for more details: lalande@oswego.edu
CNY area German teachers are urged to forward the webmistress (current AATG of CNY President Kate Stewart) their German Teaching webpages for inclusion in this chapter website.
